A Goosebumps sequel is already scaring up pre-production

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

The upcoming family horror flick GOOSEBUMPS hasn't even been released yet and it's already been greenlit for a sequel by Sony Pictures. At this rate, it'll outstrip the 62 books in the original series in no time. No director or screenwriter has been attached at this time, but stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush are contractually obligated to return. So unless a Katherine Heigl-level interview catastrophe occurs, you can expect to see their characters back again.

This is a really good vote of confidence for the new film, which is looking better and better with each passing day. For once, there's nothing cynical to say about a studio pushing out franchise material. This could be a fun, silly, nostalgic ride if they play their cards right.

In GOOSEBUMPS, upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach's comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series.

It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it's suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.

GOOSEBUMPS comes out in the U.S. on October 16th while spreading across the globe in the weeks after.
