A lunch room bully stirs up a monster in A Monster Calls clip

A Monster Calls J.A. Bayona

Just over a week ago, we shared three clips from director J.A. Bayona's new film A MONSTER CALLS, clips long enough that approximately 4% of the movie's running time was embedded right there in that article. The amount of A MONSTER CALLS released through clips has now increased by two more minutes, as below we have a look at a somewhat chilling scene in which getting dissed by a lunch room bully upsets the film's youthful lead character enough that he does the reverse of the title - he calls upon the monster.

Written by Patrick Ness from his own 2011 children's book, which was inspired by an idea from the late Siobhan Dowd, A MONSTER CALLS tells the following story:

12-year-old Conor (Lewis MacDougall) is dealing with his mother’s (Felicity Jones) illness, a less-than-sympathetic grandmother (Sigourney Weaver), and bullying classmates. He finds a most unlikely ally when a Monster appears at his bedroom window. Ancient, wild, and relentless, the Monster guides Conor on a journey of courage, faith, and truth.

A MONSTER CALLS is currently enjoying an Oscar-qualifying run in select theatres before it receives a wider release on January 6th. We have two reviews for the film here on Arrow in the Head: it received a 9/10 score from Chris Bumbray and 8/10 from Jake Dee.

Extra Tidbit: What do you think of the clip?
