SXSW 2018: A Quiet Place announced as opening night film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

One of the top films that I'm looking forward to checking out this year is director John Krasinski's upcoming post-apocalyptic chiller A QUIT PLACE co-starring his wife, Emily Blunt.

There have been (ridiculous?) rumors that the film is a secret CLOVERFIELD sequel, but until we have a bit more to go on with the flick, I'm going to chalk that rumor up to pure (but fun) fan theory.

Anyhow, A CLOVERFIELD PLACE or not, the spooky film has just been announced as the opening night film of this year's SXSW Film Festival! Here what SXSW had to say on the matter.

SXSW Film Festival's Janet Pierson:

We are particularly pleased to present John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place as our Opening Night Film. Not only do we love its originality, suspense, and amazing cast, we love seeing artists stretch and explore. While this is not Krasinki’s first feature as writer and director, it’s an exciting evolution for this multi-talented artist.

Nice! As I mentioned above, A QUIET PLACE just might be the top film on my must-watch list (I f*cking LOVE The Office, thus I love John Krasinski) and I consider SXSW to be the top film festival out there. Suck it Cannes and Sundance.

Are you excited to see John Krasinski's A QUIET PLACE? Do you think it might be a CLOVERFIELD sequel? Make sure to hit us up and let us know in the comments below or on social media!

Synopsis:

If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you. A family lives an isolated existence in utter silence, for fear of an unknown threat that follows and attacks at any sound.

The film was directed and co-written by John Krasinski, who also co-stars alongside Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds. It premieres as the Opening Night film at SXSW on March 9, 2018.
