British actress Hermione Corfield has appeared in some high profile films, like MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – ROGUE NATION, xXx: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE, and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, and she has even done some horror genre work before, with roles in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES and the upcoming film SLAUGHTERHOUSE RULEZ. Now she has landed her first leading role in the thriller RUST CREEK, which tells a variation on the familiar "wrong turn in the woods" tale.

Directed by Jen McGowan, RUST CREEK was written by Julie Lipson and is based on a story conceived by the film's producer, Stu Pollard of Lunacy Productions.

Corfield's co-stars include Jay Paulson, Sean O'Bryan, John Marshall Jones, Micah Hauptman, Daniel R. Hill, and Jeremy Glazer. Her character is

an ambitious, overachieving college senior with a seemingly bright future. While on her way to a job interview, a wrong turn leaves her stranded deep in the frozen Kentucky woods, where she’s punished by the elements and pursued by a band of ruthless outlaws. With nowhere left to run, she is forced into an uneasy alliance with Paulson’s enigmatic loner.

Now I'm curious to find out what these villainous "ruthless outlaws" are like.

IFC Midnight has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to RUST CREEK and are planning to give the film a theatrical release in January 2019.

Lunacy Productions has a mandate to support female filmmakers, so in addition to having women write and direct the film, RUST CREEK also hired women for key roles in the crew, including director of photography, production designer, colorist, and sound mixer. The project was even awarded a Women in Film LA finishing fund grant.

Pollard had this to say about the distribution deal with IFC Midnight:

We are thrilled to partner with IFC Films on the release of this very special film. The entire crew — with Jen leading the way — did an amazing job in some very extreme conditions. We are very excited for audiences nationwide to see our cast’s amazing performances."

I'm looking forward to hearing more about this one as it gets closer to release.
