Fox isn’t digging Max Landis’ Chronicle 2 script?

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Parents are always revealing embarassing things about their kids– fathers especially. It seems John Landis is no different, as he has recently revealed his son, uber-screenwriter Max Landis, is getting a negative reaction from Fox regarding his script for CHRONICLE 2:

“He wrote a sequel, and it’s amazing, and the studio read it and said, ‘We want ‘Chronicle’ again!’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution, and they said ‘No, we want that movie again!’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.”

CHRONICLE emerged as the sci-fi genre’s sleeper hit of the year. With it, Max Landis’ career has really taken off– he’s currently developing the superhero pilot VIGILANT and has been working on Fox’s FRANKENSTEIN adaptation. It’s good to hear Max is trying to take CHRONICLE in a different direction but it isn’t surprising that Fox would show some resistance.

I just find it really funny John Landis is the one gabbing about it all. I’m sure he did the same thing when Max was growing up: “He’s been really struggling with his paper for Mrs. Crenshaw’s class. She just doesn’t get his vision for a book report on THE BOXCAR CHILDREN, but that’s just the 5th grade. It’s a hard grade for sensitive artists.” Cue up a whiney “Daaa-aad” then spike it with an audience laugh track and you have the best 80s sitcom premise never produced.
