Adaptation for classic Sci-Fi novel A Wrinkle In Time heading our way

03.19.2010by: Jared Pacheco
I'm sure you've all heard of the classic 1962 sci-fi novel A WRINKLE IN TIME by Madeleine L'Engle, right? I've heard about this bad boy several times throughout my years but have yet to actually look into it.. what was I waiting for? This thing seems beautifully twisted, which is right down our alley here at AITH!

Now what am I getting at? Well you see The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that Bedrock Studios and Disney are gearing up to bring us an updated adaptation of the classic tale! They've even gone ahead and tapped writer Jeff Stockwell with the task of penning the script. Now be fore-warned, Stockwell and Bedrock Studios' Cary Granat's previous credits include THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA and BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA so there's a very good chance A WRINKLE IN TIME will fall along with those films... But let's hope not.

A WRINKLE IN TIME revolves around teenager Meg Murry, her genius brother Charles Wallace and classmate Calvin O'Keefe as they launch an interplanetary mission to rescue the siblings' missing scientist father. They are counseled along the way by the mysterious trio of Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Which.

I hear those 'Whatsits' and 'Whos' can be pretty devious. Watch out for them. Disney and Bedrock are actually banking on WRINKLE becoming a franchise, following the novels of the 'Time Quintet,' which is a series of sequels to WRINKLE. It seems plans are to try and tackle this one with a budget in the area of $35 million.

So what do you guys think? Anyone out there actually get a chance to read this bad boy? Is it something we should be excited about or should we forget about this thing from the get-go? Hit us with your opinions below and keep it here for more on A WRINKLE IN TIME as we hear it!

Extra Tidbit: A WRINKLE IN TIME was adapted into a TV movie starring Ellen Dubin (above) back in 2003.
