Alex Proyas to adapt Daniel Wilson's sci-fi thriller Amped to the big-screen

11.05.2012by: Jake Dee

Seems like techno-thrillers are making a fashionable comeback...

Earlier today, we told you about Wally Pfister (best name ever btw) surfing such waters in TRANSCENDENCE, and now it seems Alex Proyas (THE CROW, DARK CITY) is doing likewise for Working Title. Y'all ready to get AMPED!

Based on ROBOPOCALYPSE author Daniel H. Wilson's bestseller of the same name:

AMPED imagines a world where nanotech-enhanced people and ordinary humans are at war with each other.

Better yet:

In Amped, people are implanted with a device that makes them capable of superhuman feats. The powerful technology has profound consequences for society, and soon a set of laws is passed that restricts the abilities—and rights—of "amplified" humans. On the day that the Supreme Court passes the first of these laws, twenty-nine-year-old Owen Gray joins the ranks of a new persecuted underclass known as "amps." Owen is forced to go on the run, desperate to reach an outpost in Oklahoma where, it is rumored, a group of the most enhanced amps may be about to change the world—or destroy it.

Sounds like well traveled territory for Proyas, which could prove good or bad. His movies seem to have gotten worse over the years. You think this Wilson fella, a bright up and comer, might just be just the inspiration Proyas needs to get back to the halcyon days? Or would you rather see TRANSCENDENCE?

What says you?

Extra Tidbit: Anne Hathaway (above), star of ROBOPOCALYPSE, has my shorts AMPED!
