Alien: Covenant gets UK poster, TV spot with John Denver and Dr. Shaw

The new extended TV spot for ALIEN: COVENANT may be my favorite piece of marketing for the film yet, with my enjoyment coming from the incongruous use of John Denver pleasantly singing about West Virginia over images of a distant planet, images that soon descend into terror.

Mixed in among these images is a clue to just what sort of role Noomi Rapace’s PROMETHEUS character Dr. Elizabeth Shaw will be playing in the film. Although the facial features are not clear, it appears that COVENANT’s new characters will be seeing some kind of hologram message left by Shaw.

A sequel to PROMETHEUS and a prequel to ALIEN, ALIEN: COVENANT was directed by Ridley Scott from a script crafted by John Logan, Dante Harper, Jack Paglen, and Michael Green. The synopsis:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, Tess Haubrich, Uli Latukefu, James Franco, Noomi Rapace, and Guy Pearce star, with Andrew Crawford and Javier Botet providing Xenomorph performances.

Waterston and a Xenomorph are both featured on the rather cool new UK poster that can be seen below. ALIEN: COVENANT is scheduled for a May 12th release in the UK, with the US release following on May 19th.
