ALIEN: COVENANT has finished shooting, and details are emerging in the Comic-Con afterglow. In an interview with Collider, Michael Fassbender discussed the Ridley Scott-directed flick. He avoided spoilers, because he'd be burned at the stake by Hollywood producers if he didn't, but he gave us a look at the overall shape and tone of theis sequel to PROMETHEUS.

This ‘Alien’ is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see. It’s much scarier than ‘Prometheus’ but it’s got the same sort of scope of ‘Prometheus’. It’s kind of got more of the sort of thriller, imminent disaster feel that ‘Alien’ had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of ‘Prometheus’… Once it starts and the ball starts rolling, it doesn’t let up. It’s really gonna bring chills to the cinema.

Taking PROMETHEUS and making it scary is definitely a step in the right direction, but we'll have to wait until next year to see if our idea of fear lines up with Fassbender's. Considering his performance in SHAME, I'd say he's pretty fearless, which might be a good sign.

Written by Michael Green, Jack Paglen, and John Logan, ALIEN: COVENANT has the following synopsis:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

The cast also includes Danny McBride, Noomi Rapace, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Callie Hernandez, Billy Crudup, and Benjamin Rigby, with Fassbender back in the role of David.

The movie will blast off on August 4, 2017.
