Alien home invasion project Intruders set up at Paramount

Steven Spielberg Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Hot on the heels of the news that Blumhouse will be producing a "home invasion during an alien invasion" film titled INVASION comes the announcement that Paramount has acquired an alien home invasion project called INTRUDERS.

Scripted by James V. Simpson, whose only previous credit is the 2009 crime thriller ARMORED, INTRUDERS is said to be

inspired by CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and the “Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter,” in which a Kentucky family claimed to have survived an all-night alien home-invasion attempt.

Interestingly, Steven Spielberg had once been planning a CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND follow-up that was inspired by the story of the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter. That project fell apart, but elements were worked into POLTERGEIST and E.T.

Dan Farah of Farah Films, producer of Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE, will be producing INTRUDERS for Paramount alongside IT producers Roy Lee and Jon Berg of Vertigo Entertainment. Paramount production president Liz Raposo will be overseeing the project.

The hope among the producers and Paramount is that INTRUDERS will be the start of a franchise.

I don't expect this film to usurp CRITTERS as my favorite "aliens attack a family home" movie, but I'm looking forward to seeing how this alien home invasion will play out... and to seeing what sort of aliens are involved.
