Amazon Studios acquires Nicolas Winding Refn’s The Neon Demon

Bob Berney is back in the Nicolas Winding Refn business. President of theatrical distribution at FilmDistrict when the company released Refn's most popular film, the 2011 thriller DRIVE, Berney is now the distribution chief at Amazon Studios, the company that has just acquired the distribution rights to Refn's horror film THE NEON DEMON.

Starring Elle Fanning, Keanu Reeves, Christina Hendricks, and Jena Malone, THE NEON DEMON is said to be inspired by the story of Countess Bathory and centers on

…an aspiring model named Jesse who moves to Los Angeles, where her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

Amazon Studios is planning a summer 2016 theatrical release.

I probably don't qualify as a fan of Refn; while I absolutely love DRIVE, I'm a bit cold on the rest of his filmography, even the cult favorite BRONSON. Still, I am very excited to see him starting to venture into horror (he's following this up by producing the MANIAC COP remake) and can't wait to check out THE NEON DEMON.
