Annabelle screenwriter to return for sequel

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

ANNABELLE 2 is a go! A sequel to ANNABELLE was pretty much a given after it decimated the box office on a relatively miniscule budget, but things are finally stirring. Screenwriter Gary Dauberman of the first film is confirmed to pen the new film, which is being produced by James Wan. Director John Leonetti may not be returning, but if the script hasn't been written yet, they still have time to get people attached.

I for one hope that Dauberman concentrates on the eerie, well-composed scares of ANNABELLE while eliminating the unnecessarily complex story that weighed the film down. Also, a little more killer doll action would be nice. The namesake of the flick needs to get into play, rather than just being the accessory of a totally independent demon.

There is no release date yet for ANNABELLE 2, but it will presumably come after the sequel from the franchise it is spun off from, THE CONJURING 2: THE ENFIELD POLTERGEIST. THE CONJURING 2 will haunt theaters on June 10, 2016. Actually, you know what? I think that they can scramble together another ANNABELLE in that time. I believe in them. More on this as it breaks!
