Are The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’s sequels going to shoot back to back?

With THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO set to open tomorrow, the promotion is well under way. There was a press conference held in New York, and it brought up some talk about the sequels to the film.

Fans will know that there are a trilogy of books called the Millennium Trilogy featuring THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE and THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET’S NEST. The three film adaptations do exist but the call for them to all have English language versions will be high, especially if audiences take to Fincher’s version.

Fincher was asked about this, and whether or not he would consider shooting the sequels back to back as they are essentially one big story. “Yes, the second two books are very much one story and it doesn’t seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. Put out the second one. Go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. I don’t think Rooney wants to be doing this four years from now. So I think that would be crazy especially given the sense that it’s really one story that’s kind of bifurcated in the middle.”

Sounds interesting and I guess we shall see what happens with this. Steve Zaillian also clarified that he has not started work on the sequels yet but he had heard the rumor of the back-to-back shoot. If this all goes ahead, I guess we’d say best case scenario they’d be into production by the end of next year.
