BBC America adopts Orphan Black from the creators of Ginger Snaps and Cube

Oct. 24, 2012by: Ike Oden

GINGER SNAPS made such huge waves in the horror community when it was first released by being a funny, touching, and ultimately scary take on the classic werewolf tale. The two sequels that followed it weren't too shabby, either. So what would you say if the creator of that series tackled a sci-fi suspense TV show for BBC America?

John Fawcett, director and co-writer of GINGER SNAPS, is putting together ORPHAN BLACK for the channel. It will star Tatiana Maslany (Ghost from GINGER SNAPS 2: UNLEASHED) as Sarah, a street-smart girl who witnesses a woman’s suicide and assumes her identity, cleaning out her bank account in the process. She then learns that both she and the dead woman are clones, sending her on the run.

Fawcett co-created the series with CUBE writer Graeme Manson, who is also executive producing with Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier. The show will co-star Maria Doyle Kennedy, Dylan Bruce, Jordan Gavaris, Kevin Hanchard, Michael Mando, Elizabeth Saunders and Ron Lea.

What do you guys think? Are you down for a dark scifi-suspense show from the creators of GINGER SNAPS and CUBE? Americans can look for ORPHAN BLACK to premiere early 2013 as part of BBC America's "Supernatural Saturday" block, while Canadian viewers can watch for it to hit Space channel. While you're at it, talk back with your thoughts below...
