Bear McCreary to score Blumhouse’s Half to Death

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Recently we learned that INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 4 was being pushed from its October release date to January 2018 to, supposedly, make room for Blumhouse's other horror offering HALF TO DEATH, from director Christopher Landon (PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE MARKED ONES, SCOUT'S GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE).

HALF TO DEATH centers on "a woman who’s trapped in a vicious cycle of death and must solve the mystery of her own murder before her chances run out." Dread Central recently caught up with director Christopher Landon (see above), and he gave them quick but reassuring info on the upcoming flick.

Director Christopher Landon on HALF TO DEATH:

We’re in post now, and I’m getting ready to start working with our amazing composer Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, Colossal). We have some VFX stuff to iron out but overall the film is in great shape and I can’t wait for people to see it. It’s a funny, scary ride; and thankfully the studio loves it and is going to really get behind it.”

Right on, Christopher Landon. I'll admit I have a strange bit of bitterness to HALF TO DEATH, if only because I feel the film pushed back the new INSIDIOUS flick, but that's just me being unreasonable. The film does sound like "a funny, scary ride" being the plot sounds like GROUNDHOG DAY: THE HORROR MOVIE and composer Bear McCreary (see below) is always a welcome addition to any flick.

I say, bring it on.

HALF TO DEATH synopsis:

A young college freshman named Teresa is troubled by when she discovers she is living the same day over and over again, one that starts out innocently enough but always ends with her brutal murder by an unknown attacker. Could the murdered be her boyfriend Gregory, who is also sleeping with Teresa's roommate Lori? Or could it be Lori, who is ferociously envious that Gregory might like Teresa more? Maybe it is one of Teresa's classmates, unable to get her attention? Perhaps one of her professors, who cannot consummate their passion for their top student? Or perhaps it's some secret Skull & Bones-type society, who picked Teresa for no good reason to be their ritualistic sacrifice? It's like "Single White Female" meets "Groundhog's Day" meets "Captivity," and certain to be just as terrifying.

HALF TO DEATH is directed by Christopher Landon, from a script written by Landon and comic book writer Scott Lobdell. The film stars Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews, Charles Aitken, and Jason Bayle.

HALF TO DEATH hits theaters October 20th.
