Bill Murray will definitely not be in Ghostbusters 3, Dan Aykroyd says

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

You read the headline right: Bill Murray is NOT going to be in GHOSTBUSTERS 3. Now maybe we can all move on with our lives.

In an interview with ComingSoon.net, Aykroyd talked about the long road taken to get another GB flick developed. Of course, as it always must, the question regarding Murray’s status in relation to the film was brought up. Aykroyd then dropped the bomb:

“No, I can tell you he won’t be involved.”

Asked how he feels about this, Aykroyd continued:

“It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”

It’s arguable whether or not “it’s time to make” a new GHOSTBUSTERS movie, but if it is destined to happen, thank Zuul we can lay the “will he or won’t he” game to rest in regards to Bill. Yes, it would be nice to see him wielding the proton pack again, but for the love of Slimer, I can’t write another article about his waffling. And I’m sure you don’t want to read one.

MEN IN BLACK III scribe Etan Cohen is currently working on the new draft of the screenplay.
