One project I've been following closely for quite a while is the big screen adaptation of BIOSHOCK. Production was moving along pretty smoothly with Gore Verbinski at the helm and everything looking peachy. Then the budget just kept moving on up, which caused production to be shut down indefinitely.. or so we thought...
Word today coming from an interview Industry Gamers did with Irrational Games' creative director Ken Levine is that there's still hope for a big screen adaptation! When asked about the first failed attempt to bring BIOSHOCK to the big screen, and video game adaptations as a whole, Levine responded:
"I think weíre in the space now of building properties that are appealing to people, and thereís a version of BioShock that makes a great game and thereís probably a version of BioShock that makes a great movie. I think for us as a company, we donít have any need to get a movie made. Weíd like to have a movie made, but it would have to be the right one, and weíve had the opportunity to get it made and unless all the right pieces are in place Ė itís hard enough to get a movie made when all the right pieces are in place. If you donít start with the right pieces, you donít have a prayer. Weíve had a lot of great talks with great people about it. We got close to great people, but you always have to have all of those pieces in place and thatís going to be very challenging. Itís a moving puzzle, but Iím going to be continually talking to people about it. Itís definitely something thatís still in the conversation."
'Definiitely something that's still in the conversation,' huh? Doesn't sound like anything solid but at least there's still hope right?
What says you guys? You want to see this BIOSHOCK movie or are you cool with just keeping it in the video game world? Spit some bullets below and let us know what you think as we await more news on this mystical BIOSHOCK adaptation.
