There’s a lot of cool shit headed our way in the new year—MAD MAX: FURY ROAD comes to mind—but the one project that will probably land on everyone’s “most anticipated” list has to go to Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead”, a 10 half-hour episode series on Starz. The show will bring Campbell back to take on the iconic role of ass-kicking Ash Williams when a deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind.

With the show set to premiere on Starz in 2015, it’s not going to be easy for Campbell and Raimi to dodge any questions regarding their return to the world of EVIL DEAD, that’s for sure. In talking with EW, Campbell explains that the reason they decided on making a TV show rather than a feature film was because “in the format of a TV show, we could give people exactly what they wanted and expand the character and the story even more.” And who’s going to complain about seeing more of Ash and his boomstick? No one.

As far as Ash’s character in the present day, Campbell says, “You could have a [field day] with his PTSD. He’s a war vet. He doesn’t want to talk about it, and he’ll lie about that stump on his hand to impress the ladies. That’s what I look forward to playing – a guy with horrible flaws. In Army of Darkness he can’t memorize three words, and he’s responsible for the death of a hundred people – this is your lead character!”

Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons –personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

“Ash vs. Evil Dead” is being described as half-hour horror comedy where Ash takes a road trip to banish his demons alongside two young helpers and his trusty boomstick. Sidekicks? This certainly creates an interesting wrinkle in the story and I’m curious to see who they are. What are the chances we see Jane Levy showing up?
