Last month, we learned that ENDER'S GAME author Orson Scott Card and Aaron Johnston had developed a sci-fi thriller television series called Extinct, which is set

400 years after the extinction of the human race and follows a small group of humans who are revived by an alien civilization. Over the course of the season, the series carries the colony of revived humans through struggles with the aliens who extinguished humankind centuries before, while trying to understand and get along with the mysterious aliens who revived them.

The project was set up at BYUtv and anticipated to receive a ten episode first season order from the cable/satellite channel. That is exactly what has happened now, as BYUtv has officially announced that they have given the series a greenlight.

BYUtv managing director Derek Marquis had this to say about the show:

We are pleased to debut a sci-fi thriller created exclusively for BYUtv by one of the most awarded and bestselling authors — Orson Scott Card. Following the incredible response to our first scripted drama, ‘Granite Flats,’ we are bringing a powerful apocalyptic story to life, written by two of the strongest writers in the world of speculative fiction, and directed and produced by top independent filmmakers."

Ryan Little directed the pilot episode. The cast includes Chad Michael Collins, Victoria Atkin, Yorke Fryer, Jaclyn Hales, Nic Luken, Matthew Bellows, Jack Depew, and Jake Stormoen.

Extinct will make its premiere on BYUtv sometime in 2017.
