Back in June it seemed Ridley Scott disciple Carl Erik Rinsch was in line to direct a 3D remake of 70s classic LOGAN’S RUN. Apparently that’s no longer the case!
According to THR, Rinsch has said sayonara to Warner Bros. reimagining of Michael Anderson’s original, doing so in favor of making 47 RONIN with Keanu Reeves at Universal. Not sure if Rincsh really wanted to make one over the other, but when a film gets tagged with an official release slot…inspiration becomes back-burned. As it stands, Universal has 47 RONIN pegged for a November 21, 2012 opening. So it is written, so the film should be made!
What about the LOGAN’S RUN remake then? Well, Alex Garland’s script is said to be so strong, as is the following for the original, that many directors will be and have been interested. Bryan Singer (X-MEN), Robert Schwentke (RED) and Joseph Kosinski (TRON: LEGACY) are among those who’ve expressed interest in the past. With the gig now vacant, expect to hear many new names in the running in the next few weeks.
Until then however, let us know who YOU think is best suited to direct a LOGAN’S RUN remake. Not sure? Here’s an original synopsis:
LOGAN’S RUN is set in a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.
