Carrie remake officially offered to Chloe Moretz

Last week brought the news that MGM and Kimberly Peirce had narrowed down their search for the next CARRIE to two young ladies: Haley Bennett and Chloe Moretz... Now, seems as though only one gal is left standing. (In a pool of pig blood.)

According to Deadline.com, MGM has chosen Ms. Moretz; the studio has formally offered her the role of Carrie White, and now we wait to see if she accepts. Common sense says that she will; the actress, who has been growing up before our eyes ever since her memorable turn in KICK-ASS, is most likely looking to nab a "grown up" role that begins her transition from cute child actor to leading lady. She'll next be seen in Tim Burton's DARK SHADOWS and last starred in Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning hit HUGO.

The role of Carrie was made iconic by Sissy Spacek back in 1976, while Angela Bettis did what she could with it in the woeful 2002 remake for television.

If Moretz's deal is finalized, the search begins for the rest of the cast, starting with mean momma Margaret. Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore's names have evidently been tossed around. We'll just see what happens.

Extra Tidbit: Moretz is currently 15, while Spacek was 26 when she made CARRIE.

Good casting if they get her. I agree on one hand she seems young - though could that be cos we're used to seeing 20-30 year olds playing teens.

Yeah, not sure about this one. Moretz just turned 15. Sissy Spacek was 26 or 27 when she did CARRIE. Oops, didn't see your spilled blood Eric...good call!

If she says yes, this quickly shot up to one of my more anticipated films of 2013.

Don't judge me, but this is one remake I can get behind. I love the original film, but for me it is flawed and is quite dated. I'd love to see a version that sticks closer to the novel.

I'm in agreement here; the original's great, but it *is* very dated, and much of it feels so 70's and broad. The performances, too. They fit the film stylistically, though.
I actually preferred the 2002 remake, as it was more faithful to the novel and much more subtle (and I found Angela Bettis and Patricia Clarkson to be more moving, IMHO). The original had the superior ending, though.
As far as this remake goes, I don't necessarily think Moritz is right for the role, however if they can make

My main hope is that they'll stick more to the source material, and, really, make Margaret more of a complex, human character, the way she is in the book (and, interestingly enough, the musical), as opposed to just a one-note fanatic.

Moretz is only 15? Don't get me wrong but she looks hotly beyond 15. At first I thought she's about 19 or 20.
