05.07.2013by: Ryan Miller

Anchor Bay Films and CineTel Films are getting set to release the next chapter of the controversial I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE film franchise. I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE 2 wrapped production late last year with Steven R. Monroe directing. The film is expected to be released in fall 2013.

Naturally beautiful, Jessica (Dallender) has just settled into New York where she, like many other young women, is trying to make it as a model. But what starts out as an innocent and simple photo shoot soon turns into something disturbingly unthinkable! Raped, tortured and kidnapped to a foreign country, Jessica is buried alive and left to die. Against all odds, she manages to escape. Severely injured, she will have to tap into the darkest places of the human psyche to not only survive, but to exact her revenge…

The upcoming revenge thriller will star Jemma Dallender, Joe Absolom, Aleksandar Aleksiev, Mary Stockley, Michael Dixon, Valentine Pelka, Yavor Baharov, George Zlatarev, Peter Silverleaf and Georgi Zlatarev. Now, check out the film's very first still courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.

I look forward to I Spit on Your Grave 2 for two reasons. One, any rape-revenge movie has minefield to negotiate in 21st century America. This culture is not the same one from '70s grindhouses and the '80s video store. The 2011 I Spit managed to be a thoughtful and well-made movie with some merit. Can the sequel be worthy? Reviews and a possible rental will let me know soon. Two, I Spit on Your Grave 2 has a plot resembling Taken. I like the change in dynamic. As in most rape-revenge fare, the

Reviews and a possible rental will let me know soon. Two, I Spit on Your Grave 2 has a plot resembling Taken. I like the change in dynamic. As in most rape-revenge fare, the damsel delivers her own brutal justice instead of a man having to deliver it for her. I appreciate always recognizing the power of the woman (as in the original Day of the Woman) and of the assault victim. Brutalized men get to exact revenge at the cinema all of the time. Movies should present similar female Punishers who practice righteous vengeance after atrocities. Rape-revenge movies recognize that wicked and sick things happen in the world. But, they present protagonists as empowered to correct (or at least take an eye-for-an-eye) afterwards. Also, rape-revenge movies present the audiences the important truth that the real monsters in the world are us.

This has nothing to do with the remake of I Spit On Your Grave (which I happened to enjoy.) While I will see it, it sounds like a generic rape-revenge film. You could name it anything.

Oh dear...

Usually, I try to go into a movie with an open mind, but this just sounds like awful, pointless, torture porn garbage .
