MANIAC still hasn't gotten a release date, but that doesn't mean we can't get a taste of what's to come. It seems the first six minutes of the film have been unleashed online for lovers of first person stalk-and-slashing. Based on these 360 seconds, MANIAC may just be the remake event of next year.
Even if you're vehemently against horror re-dos, this one has a hell of a lot of potential. Wood is ingeniously cast outside-of-the-box, the "first person" gimmick is intriguing inversion of the "found footage" trend, and early reviews of the film have been uniformly solid. Director Frank Khalfoun seems to have this flick locked down solid. Don't believe me? Check out MANIAC'S intro below to see the remade killer in action.
Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank's obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.
