Now that we know Sam Raimi's OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL will mystify screens on March 8, 2013...expect casting announcements to start pouring in by the boatload. In fact, it's already starting...
Variety has it that 11 year old actor Joey King has won the coveted role of China Girl in the 3D Disney reimagining. She joins James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams.
King (seen right), who you may have seen in QUARANTINE or BATTLE: LOS ANGELES, also recently joined the cast of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. That's two major tent-pole films for two major film studios...all at the tender age of 11. Mighty big things in that one's future, wouldn't ya say?!?
As we spelled out earlier, in the prequel Williams' character will team up with snake oil salesman James Franco to face off against her evil sisters, played by Rachel Weisz and Mila Kunis, in a power struggle for control of the magical land of Oz.
Weisz will play Evanora, a powerful, evil witch who intends to rule the land. She is the sister of Theadora (Kunis) and tries to seduce her to the dark side.
OZ: THE GREAT AND POWERFUL is due March 8, 2013.
