Chris Sun set to direct killer pig creature feature Boar

To date, Australian director Chris Sun's career has consisted entirely of horror movies. He got his start with 2011's COME AND GET ME, and followed that up the next year with DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL. The first time he caught my attention was with the slasher CHARLIE'S FARM, which had a cast that included Kane Hodder, Bill Moseley, and as the killer Charlie, MAD MAX: FURY ROAD's Rictus Erectus, 6'11" Nathan Jones.

Sun isn't ready to move on from the genre just yet. His favorite Australian movie is Russell Mulcahy's 1984 giant killer pig flick RAZORBACK, and he's going to pay his respects to it with his next movie, his own version of a killer pig creature feature, BOAR.

Synopsis:

The giant boar was a myth, a legend brought to life in a drunken pub tale. The thing about myths and legends, they are usually made up of partial truths, and in this case, complete and terrifying truths. Tearing a path of destruction through fencing and livestock, locals haven’t a clue of the chilling death that lurks in the striking Australian outback.

The Monroes are on a road trip to reconnect with a life they left behind several years ago. Seeing old friends and loved ones bring the tight knit family even closer together. A spontaneous decision to picnic along the shores of a cool river three hours from town brings them face to face with death itself.

A boar of staggering size with a taste for blood is cutting out a crude home in the bush, and has marked this area as his. Nothing can stand in its way, nothing can stop the destruction.

While the boar continues its savage rampage, the Monroes settle in for a quiet afternoon, and an evening of wild pig and roo spotting. As they are slowly and savagely stalked and slaughtered by the beast, the fight for survival becomes as animalistic and brutal as the animal itself.

The titular boar is described as "a four meter long, eight foot high killing machine". Sun will be pitting this beast against characters played by Bill Moseley, Nathan Jones, Melissa Tkautz, Christie-Lee Britten, and a couple Australian movie icons – Roger Ward, from the original MAD MAX, and WOLF CREEK's John Jarratt. 

Filming begins on BOAR this month, somewhere out in the Australian countryside.

I haven't watched any of Sun's movies yet, but I'm really interested in CHARLIE'S FARM and am now looking forward to BOAR. I might check out his previous three while I'm waiting for this one.
