Cinemax offers first look at Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s Outcast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The last time a comic book by Robert Kirkman was given the television treatment, it resulted in the stunning phenomenon that is AMC's THE WALKING DEAD. Now Cinemax is set to get in on the Kirkman action, giving a ten episode series order to an adaptation of his new comic book OUTCAST, an exorcism drama that

tells the story of Kyle Barnes, who has been plagued by possession since he was a child. Now, with the help of the Reverend Anderson, a preacher with personal demons of his own, Kyle embarks on a journey to find answers and regain the normal life he lost. But what Kyle discovers could change his fate — and the fate of the world — forever.

Patrick Fugit and Philip Glenister fill the lead roles of Barnes and Anderson, respectively, with the rest of the cast including Kip Pardue, Reg E. Cathy, Julia Crockett, Allison Barnes, and Wrenn Schmidt.

YOU'RE NEXT/THE GUEST director Adam Wingard directed the pilot episode. Cinemax hasn't set a premiere date for OUTCAST yet, but they have released a trailer that can be viewed below.

The dark tone and rural setting on display in the preview are definitely appealing to me, and I think it will be interesting to see how a Kirkman story handles a very different type of horror.
