Cinemax officially cancels Robert Kirkman’s Outcast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Truth be told I never really watched Cinemax's adaptation of Robert Kirkman's (THE WALKING DEAD) OUTCAST starring Patrick Fugit. I mean I watched the pilot episode – because it was directed by Adam Wingard (YOU'RE NEXT, THE GUEST) – but it didn't grab my interest enough to keep up with the other episodes.

Make no mistake, the series is high on my must-watch TV list. It just keeps getting bumped further and further down as Netflix just keeps bringing the quality TV with MANIAC and the upcoming THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE and (maybe) CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA.

But back to OUTCAST. Today it sadly looks like Cinemax has canceled the series after a mere two seasons. I don't know about you, but this news comes as little less than shocking. I mean the second season of the series was delayed for over 2 years (right?) and that to me doesn't seem to say Cinemax had.. wait for it… faith in this exorcism series.

Oh, well. Moving on.

Created and executive produced by Kirkman, the show explored how people cope with extreme circumstances while protecting the ones they love. Patrick Fugit starred as Kyle Barnes,

A young man who has been plagued by demonic possession all his life. With the help of Reverend Anderson, played by Philip Glenister, a preacher who believes he is a soldier in God’s holy war against the forces of evil, Kyle tries to protect those he holds most dear, now that the otherworldly threats prove greater in scope and number than anticipated.

The cast also included Wrenn Schmidt, Megan Holter, Reg E. Cathey, Kate Lyn Sheil, Allison Barnes, Julia Crockett, David Denman and Brent Spiner. It was based on the Skybound/Image comic title by creator Kirkman and artist Paul Azaceta. The series was produced by Fox International Studios; created and executive produced by Kirkman; executive produced by showrunner Chris Black, David Alpert, Sharon Tal Yguado and Sue Naegle.
