Claire Foy finally talks playing Lisbeth in The Girl in the Spider’s Web

News on director Fede Alvarez's reboot of the GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO franchise has been a bit quiet lately with the last bit of news we got telling us that transgender model Andreja Pejić will be making her feature acting debut in THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB.

Well, today we have some Lisbeth Salander-centric news for your reading pleasure via an interview Yahoo! just held with our new girl with the dragon tattoo, Claire Foy. Foy was out and about promoting UNSANE and stopped to chat a bit about what we can expect from this new entry in the Millennium series.

Claire Foy:

In the first three books, you’re getting her life story, and how she frees herself from the shackles of being a ward of the state. The fourth book is a different story, in a way. It’s the same character, but you’re not joining a Lisbeth who is still dealing with that part of her life. The story we tell, especially in the beginning of the film, is ‘What does she do now? What’s her purpose?’ I’m excited for people to see it; we’re not trying to make it like anything else [in the series], but we’re also not trying to make it wildly different. We’re just trying to be truthful to the story.

Claire Foy on Lisbeth's new look:

It’s quite a pared-down look. The costume we’ve found for Lisbeth isn’t the same as what any of the other actresses have worn, but it feels very like-minded. Her [thinking] now is, ‘I want to make sure that I’m wearing it — it’s not wearing me.’ I love the tattoos because I got to help decide what I was having and where they were.

Synopsis:

She is the girl with the dragon tattoo — a genius hacker and uncompromising misfit. He is a crusading journalist whose championing of the truth often brings him to the brink of prosecution. Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker — a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it…

The new film is directed by Fede Alvarez from a script written by Steven Knight, Alvarez, and Jay Basu based on the novel by David Lagercrantz (who took over the series after Stieg Larsson passed away) and stars Claire Foy, Sverrir Gudnason, Lakeith Stanfield, Claes Bang, Sylvia Hoeks, Andreja Pejić, Cameron Britton, and Vickey Krieps. THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB hits theaters October 19th.
