The very long in development SOLACE is finally lurching forward. Deadline reports that Colin Farrell has been cast alongside Anthony Hopkins in the thriller, which is set to be directed by Brazilian director Afonso Poyart.

Farrell will play an FBI detective who seeks the help of a retired and reclusive doctor to try and solve a series of grisly murders. The doctor has psychic abilities but fell out of the crime solving-game when his daughter died tragically. Desperate, the detective presses the doctor to come out of retirement for one more case, which pits them against a formidable foe.

Production begins in May on the film, which was announced back in September of ’11. The script has been toiled over by many scribes, including Sean Bailey (now the president of production at Disney), Ted Griffin, James Vanderbilt and Peter Morgan. Producers are Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson and Matthias Emcke.

Distribution rights to the film will be sold at the Berlin International Film Festival.
