Colossal's Nacho Vigalondo teams with Robert Kirkman for The Comeback

The Comeback Image Comics

Fresh from blending the style of an indie comedy with a kaiju creature feature in his film COLOSSAL, director Nacho Vigalondo is getting a time travel thriller project set up at Sony Pictures.

For this project, Vigalondo will be teaming with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, who will be producing the film through his company Skybound Entertainment. Kirkman is involved because he is the Chief Operating Officer at Image Comics, and Vigalondo's film is an adaptation of the Image series THE COMEBACK.

Written by Ed Brisson, the comic book has drawn comparisons to Rian Johnson's LOOPER and tells the story of

two men, Seth and Mark, who are agents of Reconnect, a company that, for a hefty fee, will rescue a loved one just before death by going back in time. It's also an illegal venture that has come under the scrutiny of the FBI. When one mission goes south and Seth meets a future version of himself, the men find themselves on the run from both the FBI and their employers, who want to protect their dark secrets.

Skybound's David Alpert, Sean Furst, and Bryan Furst will be producing THE COMEBACK with Kirkman and Vigalondo's creative partner Nahikari Ipina. Lauren Abrahams is overseeing the project for Sony.

I haven't read THE COMEBACK, but this adaptation has my attention, especially with Vigalondo at the helm.
