Constantine: City of Demons Doug Murphy Matt Ryan

I'll admit, the only knowledge I have of the DC Comics character Constantine comes from watching that Keanu Reeves movie thirteen years ago. I haven't read the comic book source material, and haven't seen Matt Ryan play the character on the short-lived Constantine TV series or in his guest appearances on Legends of Tomorrow… But I did just watch the trailer for the upcoming animated feature CONSTANTINE: CITY OF DEMONS, and it looks like it could be pretty entertaining.

Ryan reprises the role of Constantine for this R-rated feature, part of which was initially released as five shorts on CW Seed. Running 90 minutes, the version of CITY OF DEMONS that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is bringing to Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and Digital on October 9th has over an hour of never-before-seen content.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Blue Ribbon Content, DC Entertainment, and Butch Lukic, with David S. Goyer, Greg Berlanti, Sam Register, and Sarah Schechter executive producing, CITY OF DEMONS tells the following story:

A decade after a tragic mistake, family man Chas and occult detective John Constantine set out to cure Chas’s daughter Trish from a mysterious supernatural coma. With the help of the mysterious Nightmare Nurse, the influential Queen of Angels, and brutal Aztec God Mictlantecuhtli, the pair just might have a chance at outsmarting the demon Beroul to save Trish’s soul. In a world of shadows and dark magic, not everything is what it seems, and there’s always a price to pay. The path to redemption is never easy, and if Constantine is to succeed, he must navigate through the dark urban underbelly of Los Angeles, outwit the most cunning spawns of hell, and come face to face with arch-nemesis Nergal – all while battling his own inner demons!

The film was directed by Doug Murphy from a screenplay by J.M. DeMatteis.

Ryan's co-stars include Damian O'Hare as Chas Chandler, Laura Bailey as Trish and Ana the Healer, Emily O'Brien as Rene Chandler, Kevin Michael Richardson as Mahonin, Jim Meskimen as Beroul, Robin Atkin Downes as Nergal, Rachel Kimsey as Angela, and Rick Wasserman as Mictlantecuhtli.
