Cool Horror Videos: The Snowdroppers - "The White Dress" (NSFW)

I know I'm not the only horror fan out their who experiences a period of grief after Halloween has come and gone. The holiday is our pinnacle, legitimizing everything we love-- horror movies, haunted houses, sexy nurse costumes-- in one month long buildup to the 31st. We're going to have to wait another year for the season to begin again, but that doesn't mean we can't savor the treats we have left over. This includes The Snowdropper's (VERY NSFW) video for "The White Dress."

The Sydney based rock/blues band released this Josh Groom-directed homage to Video Nasties on Halloween. Though we're a little late to pick it up, I like to think of this "Cool Horror Videos" entry as the equivalent of discovering a forgotten fun sized bag Skittles at the bottom of our digital Halloween bucket. But, you know, with more boobs.

I can't think of a better analogy, so check out the sex, violence, and catchy guitar riffs on display below.

Extra Tidbit: I really like the grainy, B-movie look and feel of the video. It's very authentic, in my opinion, something that eludes many throwbacks similar to "The White Dress."

SPOILERS AHEAD: White Dress

"White Dress" practices art well. The ballad's protagonist lusts after a woman, and the video illustrates the objectification of a woman literally. The band assembles her from parts. We the audience know that this marriage is wrong for many reasons. Amongst them, the ring rips her rotting finger at the moment of marriage. This image homages both Frankenstein and Billy Idol's "White Wedding" in which a ring lacerates a woman and risks putting blood upon her white dress. The video's white dress

The video's white dress itself represents the wrongness of the singer's obsession. The white dress cannot represent purity as most wedding dresses do. The dress is on a corpse. Furthermore, the "White Dress" song states "I don't want a girl in a white dress." With a ghoulish humor, the rotting corpse bride represents such a girl unqualified for a white dress.
I admire this sick music video. By its OTT and heavy-handed approach, it assures itself a cult following.
