Couple del Toro bits

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

I have some interesting news tonight. The title above pretty much says it all.

Jason, one of our compadres from JoBlo, recently got the chance to visit the set for Guillermo del Toro’s HELLBOY 2. While there, he got word on a few del Toro projects. Firstly, Guillermo del Toro has expressed interest in bringing the famous Frankenstein’s Monster back to the big screen. Apparently he “would kill to make” a faithful “Miltonian tragedy” based on Frank Darabont’s original script for MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENSTEIN. del Toro is actually a big fan of Darabont’s script.

I’m sorry, but that’s some pretty sweet news. Love him or hate him, del Toro is one of the most creative minds out there, and his films are darkly intelligent. To see him bring a character like Frankenstein’s monster to the big screen would be something huge. Here’s hoping this one progresses much more.

The other news I’m giving you a little glimpse of is on del Toro’s AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. Universal has finally picked up the rights, but it’s not on the right track just yet. Reason being is that the film is “expensive, R rated and doesn’t have a happy ending.” del Toro wants to bring it up a peg, stating how he’d love to see big horror movies in theaters again, ala ALIENS and THE SHINING. More great news. Make sure you check back soon for Jason’s HELLBOY 2 set visit with even more del Toro news.
