Cowboys, Indians, aliens; oh my!

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

Well comic geeks (a population in which I am a
proud member) we’ve got another transition from graphic novel to film, this one
concerning cowboys, native Americans, and some intergalactic invaders. Hilarity
ensues. Er… I mean scary action ensues.

According to
Variety
the graphic novel COWBOYS AND ALIENS will be making the jump to
the big screen after being picked up by Dreamworks and Universal pictures.
Originally conceived by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, and written by Fred van Lente
and Andrew Foley, the film has scooped up Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby to write
the script.

This is one of the few comics that I’ve never
heard of until the film announcement, but I must admit it sounds pretty cool.
Set in 1800s Arizona, a skirmish between cowboys and
Apaches is interrupted by the crash landing of a space ship. The alien commander
plans to tame the Old West and enslave everyone, but the cowboys and Native
Americans turn their six-guns against the alien invaders.

There’s actually an ‘official website’ for the
comic
found here
, which is where I scooped up the
cool pics. The page also contains a trailer for the book and an online prologue
book
seen here
. Overall I think that this thing’s
got a lot of potential. Let’s just hope we don’t end up with a WILD WILD WEST
meets MEN IN BLACK type flick.

Anyone else got a thing for a girl in a cowboy hat?
