Cronenberg's classic Scanners heading for region-free Blu-Ray

One of the most iconic horror films in history is getting the Blu-Ray treatment in April from Second Sight Films in a highly collectable limited edition steelbook, and we have the details for ya!

Fans of the genre are more than familiar with David Cronenberg's classic SCANNERS, the 1981 science-fiction action film written and directed by Cronenberg and starring Jennifer O'Neill, Stephen Lack, Michael Ironside, and Patrick McGoohan concerning a scientist who sends a man with extraordinary psychic powers to hunt others like him. The above image of a scanner's head exploding is one of the most memorable images from the cult-classic that has been a fan favorite since its release.

SCANNERS finally explodes on to Blu-ray as a limited edition steelbook along with a DVD release on April 8 2013 complete with a slew of brilliant new special feature including:

·      MY ART KEEPS ME SANE – Interview with star Stephen Lack
·      THE EYE OF SCANNERS – Interview with cinematographer Mark Irwin
·      THE CHAOS OF SCANNERS – Interview with executive producer Pierre David
·      EXPLOPING BRAINS & POPPING VEINS – Interview with makeup effects artist Stephen Dupuis
·      BAD GUY DANE – Interview with actor Lawrence Dane

Also releasing on April 8 is two of the classic films sequels, SCANNERS II: THE NEW ORDER and SCANNERS III: THE TAKEOVER, both hitting in a region-free Blu-Ray format.

Cool but...

Supposedly The Criterion Collection are doing this on Blu-ray later this year. I heard rumours that David Cronenberg is recorded an running commentary track with new featurettes as well. I know Scream Factory has the rights of the sequels but only on DVD.

But what about Scanner Cop? Extra tidbit: I had Scanners that was released by MGM DVD years ago so I might double dip for this one.
