Date for Signal

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

Magnolia Pictures announced some date changes and additions for a couple of upcoming flicks on their slate today, and while I’m stoked on one, I’m scratching my head at the other.

First up, the Sundance smash hit THE SIGNAL (pictured above) has landed August 10th as its official theatrical release date. This I’m STOKED about, as a mid-August horror romp is usually what the summer needs, especially after all the crap that’s released earlier in June and July. Yes, the summer looks/sounds exciting now, but we all know by August, the only thing we’ll have to look forward to is Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN, so at least this will hold us over.

The other is a date change, which now has the horror/comedy SEVERANCE hitting theaters April 20th. To go head-to-head with THE TRIPPER. And the croc flick ROGUE (read about that shit HERE). Why not a week later? At least then GRINDHOUSE will have been out for 3 weeks (instead of 2), and it’d be the only other horror movie out (i.e., less competition). But then again, what the f*ck do I know?

THE SIGNAL is about this mysterious signal that’s transmitted from all media devises that turns people into murdering psychopaths. The story sounds a lot like Stephen King’s CELL, which will be adapted to the big screen next year by Eli Roth. CELL is an awesome book, so anything ‘like’ it should be quite entertaining…

Of course, these dates will likely change in a week or two, but if not… be sure to add these to your ever growing calendar of release dates to keep up on, as you don’t want to be left in the dark.
