Dead Island 2 splits from developer YAGER

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

More bad news is drifting in from the DEAD ISLAND 2 front, as it has been revealed that Deep Silver has parted ways with game developer YAGER, after having already done so with game creator Techland. This is coming on top of the news that the game – the followup to the massively popular 2011 zombie game – was already being delayed until 2016.

In their statement, they made no confirmation that they have been attached to another developer at this time:

With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve. After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER. We will continue working towards bringing our vision of Dead Island 2 to life, and we will share further information at a later stage.

This setback is not such a good sign for beleagured fans, who have been waiting not so patiently following the rather well-received gameplay footage that has been circulating for some time. Hopefully Deep Silver can get back on track soon and deliver some more of the bloody good zombie-smashing mayhem the good folks at home deserve. Until then, we'll keep a severed ear to the ground.
