Director Louis Leterrier drifts away from shark thriller In the Deep

06.05.2015by: Cody Hamman

Just two months after coming on board Sony's shark movie IN THE DEEP, director Louis Leterrier (THE INCREDIBLE HULK) has left the project, with TheWrap's sources telling them it was due to the recent regime change at the studio, as well as the film's budget being reduced and "creative elements" altered. One insider ominously stated, "It was no longer the film Leterrier signed up for."

Described as a mixture of 127 HOURS, JAWS, and GRAVITY, IN THE DEEP originated as a spec script written by Tony Jaswinski which landed on the Black List and was at the center of a bidding war between studios. The story Jaswinksi came up with:

A young woman who is dealing with the recent death of her mother is surfing on an isolated beach and gets stranded 20 yards off shore on a buoy. What lies between her and the shore is a huge great white shark.

Sounds simple, but also sounds like it could be turned into a very intense thriller if they can find the right director to replace Leterrier at the helm.

Extra Tidbit: Any director suggestions?
