Disney putting together a flick about long lost attraction Museum of the Weird

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Over the years Disney has come closer and closer to that fine line between children’s spooky and actual spooky. Thankfully today it looks like they took another step in the right direction. According to the LA Times it seems Disney are planning on putting together a flick based on the attraction that never-was, ‘Museum of the Weird.’

Simple enough yet badass, right? Right. You see back in the 1960s ‘Museum of the Weird’ was thought up to be part of the ‘Haunted Mansion’ attraction at Disney World. For one reason or another the attraction was scrapped and instead parts of it were incorporated into the ‘Haunted Mansion’ attraction. Here we are 50 years later and Disney wants to bring this bad boy back!

The studio have tapped Ahmet Zappa, son of Frank, to adapt a screenplay for the feature. This thing is still in the very early stages of development so not much is known but we do know what the attraction was going to be about:

A half-century ago, well-known Disney theme-park creators Rolly Crump (above with pieces of the ‘Museum of the Weird’ attraction) and Claude Coats designed the Museum of the Weird with the idea of spotlighting a parade of ghostly organists, magic carts, talking chairs and other surreal exhibits.

Plans are to actually bring this attraction back to life if the film is successful. Chances are it will be. Now as I said this thing is a ways away from actually getting going but you can be sure we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
