With the wild success of TWILIGHT and THE HUNGER GAMES, expect the spate of young adult novels to continue to be adapted to the big screen. THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS is another that comes to mind, and now, according to THR, a new book of its ilk is getting the crossover treatment.
DIVERGENT, a dystopian thriller from 22 year old author Veronica Roth, has been scooped by Summit Entertainment with plans to turn the novel into a movie. Evan Daugherty (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, SHRAPNEL) has been pegged to adapt the script.
In an obvious parallel to THE HUNGER GAMES, DIVERGENT features a society that is divided into five factions that represent a particular virtue: Honesty, selflessness, bravery, perfection, peacefulness or intelligence.
At the heart of the story is a 16-year-old girl who leaves her family for a rival faction, where she faces a brutal initiation, even as she keeps a secret that could lead to her death. But when unrest grows between the factions, she must decide whether to reveal her true self in order to save the ones she loves.
Have you any plans to read DIVERGENT? Me neither. Guess we'll let our book club nerds Eric and Ammon break this shite down in a future podcast. I know Ammon's all over this shite!
