Does Hatchet 3 already have a director and a start date?!

Back in July we got some word from filmmaker Adam Green on the status of HATCHET III, the third film in his ‘slasher-in-the-woods’ franchise. Now back then Green didn’t spill much aside from a potential Early-2012 start date. So what’s the deal with HATCHET III yo!? It seems Bleeding Cool have the answer!

The site recently caught up with Green at this year’s FrightFest festival in London and asked him if they could get an update on HATCHET III. When they asked who would be directing this third installment, here’s what Green responded with:

“I hope everyone is excited because he was the right person for it. It’s not a name that everyone’s going to know, but when you hear who it is I think you’ll understand why I made the choice I did. What I can say is that he was my first choice all along, even when it came time to do the second one, at a certain point they wanted to do the second one and they didn’t want to wait for me, and this was the guy that I thought should do it. He’s been part of the Hatchet family the whole way, and I will tease just by saying that he was there for everything. He’s the type of guy, he works on a lot of big movies, and if he’s wearing his Hatchet crew shirt, and if the guy on the crew for, like Transformers or whatever tries to talk shit, he physically beats the shit out of him. I’m going to be with him the whole way, I’m going to be by the camera the whole time, protecting him, helping him, and I hope it’s the best Hatchet movie yet.”

Green also chatted about a slasher franchise that’ll soon be seeing a reboot in the found-footage category. Pop on over to Bleeding Cool to read up on that.

Now the big news here is not who will be directing HATCHET III, but the fact that Green won’t be directing. Though he has promised to be along for the ride the entire way, which should provied you guys with some comfort in this one. Bleeding Cool speculate that from Green’s description it could be assistant director Craig Borden, who worked on the first two HATCHET films.

Green also dropped the news that HATCHET III’s official start date is February 2012. That’s only a few months away folks! Not too shabby considering the wait we had between the first two films. Now hopefully we get some more updates on this shindig soon, like confirmation on who will be directing!
