Duo get Murky

12.17.2008by: Ammon Gilbert
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marcel Sarmiento and Gadi Hare, the directing duo behind the indie horror flick DEADGIRL (which we told you about HERE) have signed on to direct the remake of the Danish psychothriller MURK for Gold Circle Films.

The original 2005 release of MURK, directed by Jannik Johansen from a script co-written by Anders Thomas, was about a journalist named Jacob who tries to track down his sister’s mysterious fiancé after she commits suicide. Tracking him to the town of Mřrke, Jacob discovers that his sis may not have been the only woman to die badly after becoming involved with him.

A killer fiancé ? Sounds scary... something about the domestic violence angle that is a bit unsettling, which is likely the reason why the original was good enough to warrant a remake (since we all know U.S. audiences can't read subtitles too well).

To update the film (again, updated from 2005), Sarmiento and Hare will be adding a whole new 'tech-savy' twist. I don't know what that means, other than they'll use shit like cell phones and the internet to track this dude down.

No word on when production is set to begin, but we'll keep you posted. In the meantime, check out the duo's directorial debut DEADGIRL from Dark Sky Films, which should be hitting theaters sometime next year.
