DAYS OF DARKNESS - January 8th

I dig this cover. That’s all I can really say about this movie, since I’ve never heard of it before, but hey… I dig this cover. You can talk all the shit you want about the fact that it’s only being released in Full Screen, or the fact that it has Dick worth of special features (and take it from me, you should be talking some serious shit about that- that’s f*cking weak sauce!), but you can’t really say anything bad about this cover. Killer neck tattoo and a reject from 28 WEEKS LATER, all wrapped into one fun exploding sun of a cover. I’d rent it just for curiosity sake… then probably never watch it again. At least it’s in 5.1 surround sound!

The Goods:

  • Full screen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround

    SAW IV -January 22nd

Go ahead and pinch yourself, but trust me when I say that SAW IV will be hitting DVD less than three months after it’s theatrical release. Wow. Three months! I must be old… I remember the days when you’d have to wait a YEAR before a movie hit VHS – just to rent – and then another six months before you could even buy it! Now it’s WHAM-BAM-THANK-YOU-MA’M from theaters to DVD in a blink of an eye. This release just adds to the awesomeness that is January, as three days later… RAMBO hits theaters. Gotta be thankful for small favors. I give it about 4 months after this that SAW IV : THE UNRATED DIRECTOR’S CUT is available on DVD, so if you’re waiting for that one… wait just a little bit longer. They gotta tie it in with SAW V, don’t they?

    The Goods:

  • Audio commentary with Producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg and Executive Producers Peter Block and Jason Constantine
  • Second commentary with Director Darren Lynn Boussman and Actor Lyriq Bent
  • Darren's Video Diary
  • Traps and props featurettes
  • SAW IV Music Video by "X-Japan”
  • Bonus deleted scene

    CATACOMBS - February 19th

This flick is currently playing on my FEARnet OnDemand cable service in glorious HD. It’s been up for about 2 months now, and… I still haven’t watched it yet. It’s FREE to watch any flippin’ time I want, and yet… I have no desire to actually sit down and watch it. I started once, got through the credits… but then I remembered that America’s Next Top Model was on, and switched it over. That’s right, ANTM ranked higher on my must-see list than CATACOMBS. But can you blame me? This flick has been given the shaft by both Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures, and it stars Pink! PINK! Why would I want to sit and watch her mug for an hour and a half… unless she dies a horrible death. Wait. There’s some motivation for you – watch it just to see whether or not Pink dies. If she’s lucky, it’ll be as fantastically theatrical as Paris Hilton’s awesome on-screen death scene in HOUSE OF WAX. And by if she’s lucky, I mean if we’re lucky.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Audio commentary with the Directors and Writers
  • Descend into Catacombs ‘making of’ featurette
  • Music featurette

BLADE: THE SERIES - February 12th

A while back they released the series pilot as its own DVD called HOUSE OF CTHULA, and now… the entire short-lived series is yours to own. I downloaded a free episode off iTunes and as it was free, and I was able to watch it on the bus as I commuted my sorry ass to work, I didn’t think it was half bad. But would I set my TiVo to actually record the damn thing and watch it? No. Would I pay $2 for more episodes? No. Would I buy this 13 episode ‘series’ on DVD? Eh… maybe if it was in the bargain bin, and there was a half price sale… then maybe I’d rock that shit. Then again, February might be a lonely month, and the only thing that will keep me company is the new Blade and his new group of vampire slaying cronies.

    The Goods:

  • English DD5.1 Surround and DD2.0 Stereo Surround
  • English and Spanish subtitles
  • All 13 episodes, Extended and Unrated
  • “Turning Blade” documentary
  • Audio commentary by director Peter O’Fallon
  • Audio commentary from writers David Goyer and Geoff Johns

    DVD Covers:

    Honorable Mentions:

DEOMONS TRIPLE FEATURE –February 26th – Because you can never have too many demons in one sitting!

VAMPIRE TRIPLE FEATURE –February 19th – Because if Demons aren’t your bag, then at least you have Vampires to fall back on.

RED EYE –January 15th - Because this isn’t a remake of Wes Craven’s airplane flick, but an ‘original’ J-horror flick… set on a commuter train…

That's all for this week! Stay tuned every week for your latest DVD news, and as always, feel free to shoot me an email ([email protected] ) for any & all DVD news, scoops, and easter eggs!
