DVD BUZZ-SAW #147

Mar. 7, 2008by: Ammon Gilbert

SIGHT - May 20th

Riddle me this, Batman: how do you have sight if you don't have any eyes??? That's what I'm dying to know - so much so, that I have to see this movie, if only to kill my curiosity! However, maybe this is simply a Michael Myers look-alike mask, and if you catch sight of him first - you die!!! Oh, the possibilities here are endless.

The Goods:

  • Anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Surround 2.0

    THE ORPHANAGE - April 22nd

Some have called THE ORPHANAGE one of the best horror flicks of the year - if you didn't check it out in theaters, now's your chance to see what all the hoopla is all about! Decent special features, a cover that rocks, and the obvious marketing angle of pimping Guillermo Del Toro's name. Hey, if gets people who normally wouldn't pick it up to give it a whirl, then why the hell not, right?

    The Goods:

  • 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen
  • Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1 EX
  • English subtitles
  • Laura Grew Up: Constucting The Orphanage featurette
  • Horror In The Unknown: Makeup Effects featurette
  • Tomas' Secret Room featurette
  • Still gallery

    RAMBO - May 27th

What better way to pimp out the latest RAMBO than a quote from our very own JimmyO over at our evil step-father site JoBlo.com! Very cool to see that our love for RAMBO was seen by all - and now it's being used to promote and sell the flick on DVD. We couldn't be prouder - I don't think there's a soul out there who saw RAMBO and didn't love it. Probably one of the most violent, f*cked up films in a while - and he's right - Stallone's back and better than ever!

    The Goods:

  • 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Digital copy of the film on 2 Disc Edition
  • More TBA

RAMBO: THE COMPLETE COLLECTOR’S SET - May 27th

Why stop at RAMBO when you can go for the WHOLE SERIES??? See John J. Rambo transform from just a man trying to return to civilian life, to a legend in his own right, single-handedly stopping wars, while stacking up a very high and respectable body count in the process--RAMBO alone has well over 200. Not sure if it's worth it if you already own the trilogy on DVD, unless you're really into stainless steel tins--other wise, I'm sure picking up the RAMBO version above would suffice. But if you don't already own the trilogy--shame on you! Now's your chance!

    The Goods:

  • 6-disc s
  • Limited edition collectible metal tin
  • The best features from the entire series
  • A digital copy of RAMBO, compatible with iTunes and Windows Media Player

    DVD Covers:

    Honorable Mentions:

    QUEEN COBRA –April 15th – Because it's not a SPECIES rip-off -- I swear!

THINGS –April 15th – Because you couldn't have a more ambiguous title.

BLACK HOUSE – April 22nd - Because it's like an episode of 'Cribs,' featuring Death!

That's all for this week! Stay tuned every week for your latest DVD news, and as always, feel free to shoot me an email (ammongilbert@joblo.com ) for any & all DVD news, scoops, and easter eggs!
