FRIDAY THE 13th: THE FINAL SEASON - September 22nd

A little part of me is sad to report that the final season of the FRIDAY THE 13TH series is coming to an end on DVD. Why so sad? Because, unlike the movies, this really is the final season, no matter how obvious it is that there should be more. There isn't. I thought I remembered it lasting longer (methinks this is the 3rd season),but thinking back on it, it's probably a miracle it lasted as long as it did considering the morbidity of it all, and that it aired on prime-time TV. Complete your FRIDAY THE 13TH series collection this September.

THE HILLS RUN RED - September 29th

Before I begin, let me say that I've heard only GOOD things regarding THE HILLS RUN RED--a solid horror flick that f*cking owns, as one kat I know would say. But this cover. What the flock were they thinking? There's images of TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE running down the left side column, and the font is all in THE HILLS HAVE EYES style. And when I say style, I'm pretty sure they used the same HILLS, and rearranged the other letters to make RUN RED. There's not even Rs in THE HILLS HAVE EYES, yet they managed to create them out of the other un-used letters. You'd think it'd be easier just to be creative and make your own, eh? I'll give that mask some points though, that shit is pretty cool.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic widescreen
  • English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Audio commentary with Director Dave Parker, Writer David J. Schow and Producer Robert Meyer Burnett
  • It's Not Real Until You Shoot It: The Making of The Hills Run Red featurette.

    THE STEPFATHER - October 13th

Just in time for the release of the theatrical PG-13 remake comes the original Terry O'Quinn version of THE STEPFATHER. Although this cover isn't the official cover, the specs are reported to be legit. Remastered sound and picture quality, this should make all you STEPFATHER fans hunger for more. I'm hoping big fans of LOST pick it up on accident because of O'Quinn, then are horribly shell-shocked at the insanity that takes place. Who am I here, anyway?

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • Audio commentary and interviews with producer Jay Benson and actress Jill Schoelen

THE QUICK AND THE DEAD (Blu-Ray) - September 8th

One of my all-time favorite Sam Raimi films has to be THE QUICK AND THE DEAD. It's a Western, it stars Sharon Stone and Gene Hackman (and a couple of other clowns before they were big), and features some pretty wicked shoot-outs. I particularly liked the shot of the camera going through the dude's head after it was blown away. It's total Raimi and total fun, and I hope it looks glorious on Blu-Ray. I'm sure it will.

    The Goods:

  • 1.85:1 widescreen
  • English TrueHD 5.1
