INGLORIOUS BASTERDS – December 15

Nothing says Merry Christmas like watching Brad Pitt and company beat the living shit outta Nazi’s while planning a scheme that involves blowing up Hitler. Quentin Tarantino proves why he’s still a writer/director to reckon with, and Eli Roth proves he can’t pull off a Boston accent but CAN pull off swinging a bat. I’m glad they went with this cover art–it owns! Look at what just popped on my X-mas list this year…

    A PERFECT GETAWAY – December 29

David Twohy’s ‘bad things happen while on vacation’ sleeper hit A PERFECT GETAWAY is getting the post-holiday release, and that’s just fine with me! The best part of it is they’re releasing the director’s cut of the film in both rated and unrated versions. I recall hearing the director’s cut was even better than what was released in theaters, so no doubt you’ll want to check this shit out. Plus, a new take on the ‘floating heads on the cover’ genre!

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
  • Theatrical (1 hour 38 minutes)
  • Directors cut (1 hour 48 minutes)
  • The Original Scripted Ending (Blu-ray only)

    9 – December 9

The marketing machine of 9 continues to amaze me with even more 9 related shenanigans for its DVD release. Released on December 9th (!), just 9 days (!!) after my 29th (!!!) birthday. How’d they know that? I’m tellin you, Focus Features has been planning this shit for years! Quick turnaround too, just 3 months (to the day) of its theatrical release (3 months, 3X3=9!!). Here’s hoping it makes more than 9 billion dollars (that’s 9,000,000,000, with 9 zeroes). Then their plan would be complete.

    The Goods:

  • Anamorphic Widescreen
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Commentary with Writer/Director Shane Acker, Animation Director Joe Ksander, Head of Story Ryan O’Loughlin and Editor Nick Kenway
  • 9 – The Original Short
  • “9 – The Long and the Short of It” featurette
  • “The Look of 9” featurette
  • “Acting Out” featurette
  • On Tour with Shane Acker featurette (Blu-ray only)
