DVD Buzz-Saw #45

03.03.2006by: BiggNewt

The final specs are in for famed Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper's Mortuary (Arrow's Review Here). Being released from Echo Bridge Entertainment on April 11th but will also be airing on the Sci-Fi channel first on March 25th. Since the Sci-Fi channel pretty much sucks, you should just go ahead and get the DVD. The film has been garnering some mediocre reviews, but I keep my optimism. Here's the rundown on the specs yo!

  • Widescreen Presentation
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 English
  • DTS 5.1 Surround
  • Audio Commentary from Tobe Hooper
  • Inside the Graveyard (behind the scenes featurette)
  • Theatrical Trailer

She looks to be having a wonderful time on the set of Mortuary.

DUST DEVIL: The Director's Cut

Subversive Cinema recently cut a deal with Richard Stanley's Shadow Theatre Films to release the long-awaited definitive director's-cut edition of Stanley's 1992 chiller Dust Devil. The title will be Dust Devil: The Final Cut and will hit DVD shelves on September 26th (talk about advanced notice!). The features on the disc so far look nice although not completely finalized.

  • Three Stanley documentaries (The White Darkness, The Secret Glory and Voice of the Moon),
  • Three commentaries by the director
  • Never-before-seen deleted scenes from the original workprint,
  • More supplements

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: Untitled Special Edition

Everyone's favorite Horror Magazine got the word from Michael R. Flesher of Red Shirt Pictures about the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Special(er) Edition being released from Dark Sky Films. Felsher broke down most of the key components of the upcoming DVD and here's the breakdown of what was said.

  • Two Disc Set
  • A new high-definition transfer from the 16mm camera original
  • A new 5.1 and 2.0 stereo audio mixes along with the original mono
  • The commentary from the original DVD
  • A new commentary with stars Marilyn Burns, Alan Danziger and Paul A. Partain and production designer Robert A. Burns—David Gregory recorded it just before Robert and Paul died
  • Trailers
  • Radio spots
  • Two feature-length documentaries including the never-before-U.S.-released Texas Chainsaw Masscare: The Shocking Truth and another made up of several individual stories about the Chainsaw experience
  • An all-new, in-depth talk with Ed Neal and Gunnar Hansen, as well as [cinematographer] Daniel Pearl
  • A new tour of the Chainsaw house.
  • Makeup Effects Interview

So there you have it folks, a pretty heft set of features for a well-deserving film. Maybe they can super-impose Jessica Biel in the film somewhere, just a thought.

That's it for this installment in DVD Buzz-Saw , check back in the next column for news on
