HARD CANDY- September 19th
If you were shafted before and stuck in a town where this victim vs pedophile flick didn't play when it came out, then hold on to your butts for September, as HARD CANDY’s getting the full DVD treatment! As it rightfully should, as the flick touches on some very serious issues, and has a few twists and turns to keep things interesting. That, and what a kick ass cover!
THE COMPLETE TOXIC AVENGER - September 5th
Ah yes, the classic tale of geek boy tossed into radioactive waste, to emerge as a deformed mutated freak with super human powers, out to kick ass and save the day… all wearing a ballerina costume. Cinema doesn’t get much better than this! And now Troma’s showing the world some love by releasing this ultimate Toxie set, including all 4 flicks in their unrated and uncut form. But what’s even better than that? Remember the Saturday morning cartoon show they had called TOXIC CRUSADERS? Well, I do and I loved that show as a kid… all 13 episodes are included in this set as well! Yes, it really doesn’t get much better than this….
UNIVERSAL’S LEGACY SERIES – DRACULA & FRANKENSTEIN - September 26th
Classic horror like Dracula and Frankenstein never get old, but seem to get better over time. Case in point are these two flicks, coming out on DVD in their respective 75th year anniversary! Tod Browning’s DRACULA and James Whale’s FRANKENSTEIN are busting out with a 2 disc special edition, and if you call yourself a fan of the genre, it’d be advised to at least rent one of these bad boys and see how it all started. Bela Legosi and Boris Karloff never looked so good…
The Goods: Both Films
THE ROOST - October 3rd
Paramount’s horror label Showtime Entertainment will be releasing this indie of vampire fun this October- color me surprised that anyone other than Anchor Bay is showing the little guy’s some love. Nice! Though Ti West’s vision of teenagers going through bloody hell wasn’t liked by all (read The Arrow’s review HERE), on the smaller screen all the blood and guts will likely come off a bit better. And just in time for Halloween, too!
SNAKES ON A TRAIN - August 15th
Ah, just in time to cash in on the popularity of SNAKES ON A PLANE, comes SNAKES ON A TRAIN… but with no Samuel L. f*cking Jackson! What a shameless attempt to lure in those unsuspecting DVD renters that have no idea that they’re not the same movie… but you gotta hand it to them, they knew PLANE was gonna be a hit long enough ago to make their own flick… the only real downside here, TRAIN took the perfect title for the eventual PLANE sequel.
SURFACE: THE COMPLETE SERIES - August 15th
I’m not really sure why this show didn’t catch on, but after only 15 episodes it was pulled and now it’s yours to own! Some have said it was the best Sci-Fi monster show on TV, while most others have said… SURFACE? Never seen it! Me being one that never caught it, I must say it looked a little too SEAQUEST DSV for me, and that show sucked. Ah well, maybe on DVD it will find some love…
REEKER – October 3rd - Because watching teens sex and booze it up before they meet their demise always equals a good time.
THE CURSE OF EL CHARRO - October 3rd – Because it stars Leatherface himself, Andrew Bryniarski, and you know that dude can do some damage!
HEADHUNTER – August 8th – Because it’s about a soul stealing HR director who’s an uber hottie that seduces her co-workers. And kills them.
That's all for this week! Stay tuned every week for your latest DVD news, and as always, feel free to shoot me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org ) for any & all DVD news, scoops, and easter eggs!
