Edgar Wright to helm creature feature Grasshopper Jungle

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

At this point I think it’s safe to say that if a movie has anything to do with the end of the world, you can’t go wrong with a guy like Edgar Wright behind the camera of it. Sony has turned their eyes towards Wright who has now been tapped to helm GRASSHOPPER JUNGLE, an adaptation of the YA novel by Andrew Smith. Wright should be a perfect fit for the material, which sounds exactly like some of the batshit sci-fi creature features from the 50s.

I haven't read the novel, but from what I gathered after spending 5 minutes on google is that shit hits the proverbial fan when a couple of knucklehead kids somehow unleash six-foot-tall praying mantises upon the world with insatiable appetites for food and sex. This is going to be awesome.

Scott Rosenberg is penning the script, which tells the story of…

a teenage boy from Iowa who is struggling to deal with his hormones and all his emerging sexual feelings. At the same, time, he and his friends set off a genetically engineered plague of six-foot-tall praying mantises.

This sounds like a story that was meant for Wright to direct and I can't wait to see his vision of it come to life, horny praying mantises and all. Rosenberg is also producing the project with Matt Tolmach and Nira Park.
