Jose Padilha’s ROBOCOP remake finally seems to be getting some wind in its sails as new rumors suggest that Edward Norton (RED DRAGON, FIGHT CLUB), Sean Penn (MYSTIC RIVER, MILK), Rebecca Hall (THE PRESTIGE, THE TOWN, pictured below) and Gael Garcia Bernal (AMORES PERROS, MOTORCYCLE DIARIES) are all in talks to join the movie’s cast.
Should the rumors turn out to be true, that’s one hell of a star-studded cast. Just what the flick needs to gather up some hype and finally move into full on production. It’s rare that I get excited about remakes, but this one truly has potential. Sure it won’t beat the Verhoeven classic, but it has a good chance of being a damn fine movie in itself, especially considering the “more human” approach professed by director Jose Padilha (ELITE SQUAD).
Directed by Jose Padilha and written by Josh Zetumer, ROBOCOP will star Joel Kinnaman. The film is still at the early stages of production. We’ll keep you in the loop as the story develops in the coming months.
